Land Acknowledgement

I acknowledge that the work I do takes place in Nogojiwanong, “the place at the end of the rapids” in Anishinaabemowin. This is the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg and is covered by the Williams Treaties.

I recognize that this land is not just a location, but part of a living relationship between people, waters, lands, and all beings. The Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg have cared for and sustained this territory for generations, and I honour their ongoing presence, resilience, and contributions to community well-being.

As a Social Worker, I acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonization, residential schools, and systemic inequities on Indigenous Peoples, families, and communities. My responsibility is not only to acknowledge this history, but also to act: to listen, to learn, and to work alongside Indigenous communities in support of healing, equity, and reconciliation.

I am committed to being an active ally, engaging in ongoing training and self-reflection to ensure that my practice is trauma-informed, culturally respectful, and rooted in the values of relationship, respect, and responsibility. I strive to honour Indigenous ways of knowing and healing, and I am grateful to live and work in Nogojiwanong.
